Another fantastic book in a fabulous action/romance series! I was definitely waiting for the next book in the series, and I wasn't disappointed! I love how Cate writes books that are full length. I refuse to even try a book that is less then 250 pages. However, once I finish her books I wish the story would have gone on for another 200 pages! Definitely engaging and if not for having to go to class, I would have read it start to finish! I liked how Cate was able to portray both sides of the sub-story without making one side or the other appear to be ignorant and she did it without stereotyping. This book is different then the rest of the series in that there was more action, more build up to the romance, more minor (cute and quirky) characters, and less interaction from prior book characters (maybe that's the only downside), and takes us to a different part of the US.
I would also say since there is less overlap with prior books that this book is definitely a stand alone. Some of the others I would recommend reading in order just because they talk about situations in the previous books. But if you're picking up a Cate Beauman book for the first time, no need to grab up the previous seven first... Although, you will grab them up after finishing this one!
I would definitely read this book more than once and I would recommend it to my friends and family. Would I buy from the author again? Yes! I have read all her stories and haven't been disappointed. Each book is different and a great read.

What a great addition to this series. I have read all of the previous books but this is at the top of my list. You fall in love with Reagan and Shane as their journey unfolds. And Shane with baby Faith will melt your heart! If this is your first Cate Beauman book, you must go back and read all of the others.
The next book is about Chase, a secondary character in this book. Looking forward to getting to know him more soon.
One note I bought the kindle edition thru and there were NO issues with my download, as one reviewer stated. Don't hesitate, one click this book!
For some reason I enjoyed this book the least. I have read all the books in the series. The suspense part of the book was superb but the romance between Reagan and Shane was missing something for me. Shane was a great hero and amazingly great guy, but Reagan keeping secrets and her independence just became annoying after a while. She took strong and independent to a whole new level. It bordered on stupid and unbelievable. Loved how the story was written without judgement but understanding for a impoverished way of life. Although this was not my favorite I will continue this series because it is outstanding and romantic suspense at its best! I would definitely recommend reading book 8 and previous ones.
In this installment we meet Reagan who is an ER doctor who, although determined not be at fault or having medically malpracticed, has lost her nerve a bit as doctor after having a young patient die on her watch in the ER. She takes a position as the doctor at a federally funded station in the back woods of a mining town where people are suspicious of outsiders, especially the 'feds' . Hunter is the LA Bodyguard assigned on rotation to provide security to the station, protect the drugs stored there and the doctor. Their relationship is a slow build, and Hunter, who freely admits it, was kind of a jerk upon arrival - this was so not the place he wanted to be assigned for the next few months. In many ways this was just a really sweet story of two people learning to trust and appreciate one another while developing into a very untraditional family with the entrance of Jenny and Hope into their "home" and lives. I loved the dynamic between all of them and seeing Hunter's soft and paternal side as well as his sexy and romantic side. In the mix is Reagan's discovery of the black lung disease in several of the miners who have ventured to seek her out at the clinic and the mystery surrounding their misdiagnosis by other doctors. The owners of the mine have a lot to protect and they will go to any lenghts to silence someone who may be able to expose their activities.
Shane Harper was sent by the security company he works for as Head of Security to the Appalachian Project, which is located in the secluded area of Kenntucky. Reluctantly he accepts this assignment, contrary to Dr. Reagan Rosner who went voluntarily to this recluse area. She needs time out after a devastating experience she had in the ER of the clinic she was working in New York. She hopes that she will be able to help the population in the area. However, things are more difficult than expected and finally she and Shane manage to help only a young mother and her newborn daughter.
Nice book that unraveled though at a very slow pace. At the beginning I thought that this pace reflected the events and set backs of the plot on the one hand and on the other that this slow pace would mirror the only gradually growing relationship between the two main characters. However, after a certain time I thought that a faster pace would be more "reader friendly".
As mentioned, the dynamics between Shane and Reagan evolved only gradually.
SPOILER! SPOILER!
I found it rather disturbing that their relationship was interrupted in the way it was, when Shane accepted his next assignment. I thought that Chad's appearance in the book didn't enhance the plot and was a bit disappointed to find out in which way Reagan finally "acquired" her "family", as I had my own "thoughts" in this respect.
Generally speaking this was a very nice book, although it didn't meet all my expectations
